Hand formed vessel fired in the traditional Japanese Raku method, I must work quickly to pull smoldering ash and ember covered pieces from the outdoor pit, hose with water and when cooled, ash must be scrubbed away to reveal the colors, textures and patterns… always unpredictable… the fire gods return the pieces as they have decided… this vessel with iridescent greens, silvered pearl, bursts of metallic copper, the beginning of black crackle and a black pattern that began to emerge from the glaze, much like ancient cave art… I see movement in the flickers of candle light, animals, figures, symbols …these are the well kept secrets of the fire.
