NOMAD SKY PAINTED READING CLOTH
Black paint skims the surface of rough gray cotton canvas, the paint, brush and textile conspire to form their own secret symbols, as if an alphabet has begun to form. I cut vintage biker leather into monoliths, like faint reverberations from ancient runestones, standing stones, Stone Henge. Some of the leather piercings take my needle and black thread.
I hand painted a design from fragments of ancient horse nomad art … their stylized sun, horses and design elements in the horizontal motion of their existence, moving herds, endless grasses in the wind as far as the eye could see. It looked like they touched the sky. I hand etched the metal, cut it in an organic form and backed it with leather. The pieces took their places and were hand sewn in place then backed with black cotton velvet that does not slip.
Ancient modern minimal.
