Painted on fine artist’s linen, layers of subtle colors bring depth with tones of grays, green-gray, earthy red, charcoal, black and painted gilded markings (hard to capture the metallic gold… reads as yellow-mustard-ochre). A vintage burgundy velvet and gold-bronzed damask fragment has been hand sewn to the canvas with black thread, adding a linear detail to the simple design. The entire linen rectangle is hand sewn to black cotton velvet, framing it, with another rectangle on the reverse of black cotton velvet that does not slip.
