I painted the Moon and Sun crow pair (that scream to be fed every morning) on smooth cotton canvas. This substrate took the graphite, water color, acrylic and ink like paper, allowing crisp, washy or opaque effects, like a painting. As this piece developed it became more like a grimoire, with illustrations, Theban symbols, writings and Galdrastafir - magical staves…( Icelandic galdra magical and stafi sticks or staves).
The top painted textile collage…dragons of wisdom, protection, strength and power encircle the intriguing Icelandic symbol, End Strife. Beneath it, other symbols and writings took form like notebook entries. A small collage of antique burgundy velvet brocade and an abstracted design fragment anchor the bottom of this piece. Backed with black cotton velvet that does not slip.
This is an original painting, for wall, table, altars, the serious reader.
