Wood and Metal Altar ~ Touching the Earth Antique Buddha

$138.00

Small salvaged, crusty Buddha, worn by time, the bhumisparsha mudra remains, the Sanskrit word means “touching the earth,” or “earth witness,” this mudra signifies the Buddha’s summoning of the earth goddess Sthavara to witness his attainment of enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree.  The Buddha sits atop flowing piece of driftwood, an organic form that contrasts the placement on reclaimed oak. The wall holds a hammered, hand painted and etched section of brass with a design from an antique textile fragment, adding depth especially in candle light. An etched copper fitting stands in the front to hold incense sticks or skinny candles. Metal footed.

Complexity within simplicity.
