Burnt Wood and Old Iron Altar Square

$125.00

Crafted in the traditional Japanese technique of preserving wood, Shou Sugi Ban, charred with fire, brushed and oiled, the process of transformation is an act of zen, meditative, intuitive, elemental. We have taken these principles and applied them to our own reclaimed wood, the resulting ebony and wood grain rich, deep and textured, something that can not be achieved by stain or paint.

Made from a solid block of wood, a recess cut to fit salvaged farm estate iron that had been rusted and pitted, hand cut and finished, retaining the texture, color and earthiness of this metal.

Many labors to achieve these finishes, compatible in color and spirit, a personal altar to stand alone, a single candle becomes a sanctuary.

Stained Frame ~ The second piece (photo 3):

Reclaimed oak achieves its coffee color frame with stain, the metal center hand made in the same manner as the Burnt Wood Altar above.
