Mythical Winged Lion Incense Burner

60.00

- Modeled after an ancient Roman bronze oil lamp. Variations of this mythical creature have appeared in ancient and Medieval civilizations, the Sumerians, Persians, Romans and Venetians. They are stylized, sometimes appearing to be a lion, lioness, griffin or other creature. Archeologists have found many of these lamps in places where oil was plentiful, in this case the olives and oil of the Roman Mediterranean.                                                                             Seaweed, dark moss and white glazes mottle the fired clay. An etched copper insert holds stick and bamboo stick incense. Hand built, one of a kind.

Stands 3” tall to top of head. Length from nose to tail 5 1/4” long. Approximately 2 - 21/2” wide at various points.

~ Please take great care when burning incense, candles or other materials, never leave them unattended, on surfaces that may burn or close to flammable materials and always be watchful of children and animals.
