Sapphirus

85.00

Feathers of French ultramarine, darkening to indigo are joined with purple black rooster feathers and bound to an antler tip with hand painted linen and silks. The antler is collared with a dark indigo sapphire, called sapphirus in Latin and joined with lapis lazuli, pyrite, seed beads and mixed metals. Sapphirus was a stone sought in the ancient world, favored by the Etruscans over 2,000 years ago, the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. Desired by royalty, it was believed to protect the wearer from harm, much of a concern in the old world. Lapis, stone of royalty and spirituality, decorated the ancient tombs of pharaohs and was ground for makeup and medicine. Sapphires and lapis are associated with inner vision, psychic abilities and intuition, components of the grounded higher self.
