Lioness Altar

145.00

Encircled ceramic feline pair modeled after an ancient Roman Bronze Lioness Torque. Sekhmet, “the powerful one,” ancient Egyptian warrior goddess of healing is depicted with the head of the lioness. Her breath formed the desert, she protected the pharaohs and guided them to war. War and healing seem a contradiction but the lioness is the ultimate feminine energy, both fierce huntress, protector of the pride and patient, affectionate care giver to her young. Although the sun has been associated with masculine energy. it is the female sun that gives birth to new days, warms, nurtures and sustains all life. The Lionesses are hand modeled, fired with multiple glazes of ancient turquoise, charcoal and white. Where there is no glaze, there is only the earthen color of fired clay. Hand built, hand made, one of a kind.

Ceramic Lioness Approximately 4” tall X 4 1/4” wide Mounted on reclaimed antique French oak 2 3/4” deep X 3” wide X 3”tall. Entire piece approximately 7” tall. Fastened with a 1/2”wide etched copper strap with ancient textile design.
