Antique Bronze Icon Fragment 18-19th Century

95.00

This fragment is a part of a Russian orthodox triptych of St. Nicholas. The hinges attach to a center section and that attaches to a third part. The bronze was very, very lightly cleaned of patina to better reveal the image and pleasing color. It is suspended from an ancient Roman bronze fitting, attached to a piece of collected wood that stands on a blackened metal rod, anchored to antique French oak. The hinges are impacted with soil that we did not attempt to remove. The hinged side is a bit weightier but we do not find that distracting in any way. Accompanied by a tiny hand hammered bronze cross mounted on a piece of the same antique oak. They are content together. As excavated. Quiet companions for a votive. Stand in the light.

Bronze Icon 1 1/4” wide X 1” tall. Roman fitting diameter 5/8”, wood 3 3/4” long, oak stand 1 3/3” long X 1” tall X 1 11/2” deep
